Evan's Remains

Evan's Remains is a mystery-thriller puzzle adventure about finding a missing boy: Evan. The game combines logic-based platform puzzles with narrative inspired by Japanese graphic adventure games. Gameplay: Every time the player solves from two to three puzzles, the story goes forward and new mechanics are introduced. The challenge of the puzzles lies in the player’s ability to figure out what do rather than solve challenges based on skill. As the difficulty curve increases, the puzzles become more complex by combining two or more previously introduced mechanics. Story: Evan, the genius boy, has been missing for years. One day, a letter signed by him is received, claiming he’s on an uninhabited island somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Nobody knows why, but he asked specifically for a girl named “Dysis” to go and look for him. The player will take control of this girl, who we don’t know much about. As we follow Dysis’s adventure, questions will start to be answered little by little. All of the little puzzle pieces which seemed unrelated in the beginning will now begin to slowly fit together as the truth is slowly revealed.

2048

2048 is a free, open-source puzzle game created in 2014 by a 19-year-old Italian web developer named Gabriele Cirulli, who built it over a single weekend and published it on GitHub under the MIT License. It went on to consume roughly four million human lives in its first week. Not because it's complicated — it's the opposite of complicated — but because your brain will not let you stop. Here's the deal. You've got a 4×4 grid. Two tiles are sitting on it, each showing the number 2. You swipe in a direction — up, down, left, right — and every tile on the board slides that way until it hits a wall or another tile. If two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one tile worth their sum. Two 2s become a 4. Two 4s become an 8. Two 8s become a 16. After every swipe, a new tile (usually a 2, occasionally a 4) pops up in a random empty space. Your goal is to keep combining tiles until you forge the mythical 2048 tile. The problem is that every move spawns a new tile, the grid is only 16 squares, and the moment you can't move — because every space is full and no neighbors match — you're dead. It's basically a territory war between you and entropy, and entropy is very patient. The strategy is deceptively deep for something with four inputs. Experienced players will tell you to pick a corner, keep your biggest tile parked there, and build a descending cascade along one edge — sort of like organizing a shelf where the heaviest books go on one end. The moment you let a big tile drift into the middle, your board starts to choke. You'll develop opinions about this. You'll start swiping left in your sleep. This is normal. It's free, it's open-source, it runs in any browser, and a round takes about ten minutes — or four hours, depending on how many times you whisper "one more try" to yourself. You should play it right now. You should also clear your afternoon.

WYRMHOLE

Snake, except your body is the key that opens the door. The runes on each floor stay lit only while you are lying on them. Cover four at once and the wyrmhole opens — which means the puzzle is not where to go, but what shape to be when you get there. Length is currency. Motes feed you longer, shed shrines cut you shorter, and most Sanctums need you to be both before you leave. Some rooms want a body long enough to bridge a gap. Others want one small enough to thread a gate. Fifty hand-built Sanctums, each teaching one idea before turning it against you: floors that fall away behind you, ground that burns where you have been, and things in the dark that have noticed you. Then the Endless Reach — a causeway that builds itself ahead of you and collapses behind, for as long as you can keep ahead of it. One steady tick. No slow motion, no mercy frames. You learn how long a cell takes and you time your turns against it, exactly as you always did.

Rogue

In the early 1980s, a computer game emerged that changed the world of fantasy gaming forever. Randomly generated rooms meant that each journey into the infamous Dungeons of Doom was unique. The potent combination of random generation with perma-death proved to be intoxicating, and the game was so influential it spawned an entire genre: "Rogue-likes". Now you too can experience the thrill of dungeon crawling for the fabled Amulet of Yendor in this pioneering game. The original Rogue had many different versions and variations, and was ported to a wide variety of computer platforms. This particular version is Epyx Rogue, one of the earliest versions designed for commercial distribution, ported to MSDOS on the IBM PC, and is v1.49 of that port. - Battle dozens of unique and powerful enemies. - Gather armor, weapons, food and other items to help you on your quest. - Scour rooms for secret hidden doors and traps. - Discover strange magical spells and potions, which have different wonderous effects every time you play the game. - Survive through 26 randomly generated levels, each more tricky and dangerous than the last, to find the Amulet, then escape... if you can!

Neverball

Neverball is a 3D ball-rolling game in the lineage of Marble Madness and Super Monkey Ball. You guide a ball through obstacle courses by tilting the ground beneath it using your mouse, keyboard, or joystick. The ball has real physics and real momentum, which means every slight tilt matters, every overcorrection sends you careening toward an edge, and every narrow bridge becomes a test of nerve. The floor moves. The ball reacts. You try not to fall into the void. Each level has a simple goal: collect enough coins to activate the exit pad, then reach it before time runs out. Yellow coins are worth 1, red coins 5, blue coins 10. Collect 100 total and you earn an extra life. The levels start gentle enough, teaching you how the tilt-and-roll relationship works. Then they introduce moving platforms. Then mazes. Then pushers that shove your ball sideways. Then narrow ramps over bottomless drops with moving obstacles and a 30-second timer. The difficulty curve goes from "pleasant Sunday puzzle" to "controller-gripping precision platformer" across 183 levels. Three highscore categories per level reward different playstyles: most coins collected, fastest time to unlock the goal, and fastest time to complete the level. Speedrunning and coin-optimization runs require completely different approaches to the same course, which gives every level at least two reasons to replay it.

Teeworlds

Teeworlds is a fast-paced 2D multiplayer shooter where you control a "Tee" — a ball-shaped character with eyes and feet — across side-scrolling platform maps, fragging up to 15 other players with an arsenal borrowed straight from the arena shooter playbook. You spawn with a hammer and a pistol. Scattered across the map are a shotgun, grenade launcher, laser rifle, and the occasional ninja sword power-up that lets you slash through everything in your path. Health and shield pickups keep you alive. The grappling hook keeps you moving — swing from ceilings, slingshot across gaps, or hook an enemy player and drag them into your hammer range. The movement is where Teeworlds clicks. Double jumps, wall slides, and the grappling hook combine into a physics system that's deceptively deep. New players can jump in and have fun immediately, but high-level play looks like a completely different game — players whipping across maps at absurd speed, threading grenades through gaps mid-swing, hooking opponents out of the air. Easy to learn, genuinely hard to master.
